WHY IS DENTAL CARE IMPORTANT?
Periodontal disease is one of the most common conditions that affects both dogs and cats. It is caused by the buildup of plaque and tarter on your pet’s teeth. Periodontal disease can affect any animal, though certain breeds (including small-breed dogs), cats, and older pets tend to be at a higher risk. Studies show that around 85% of all dogs and cats over the age of four have some degree of periodontal disease. In addition to causing irreversible damage to the tissues and bone in your pet’s mouth, periodontal disease has also been linked to causing kidney, liver, and heart disease. Fortunately, there are ways for you to help your pets have healthy teeth and gums throughout their lives.
