Our puppy class is not just a socialization class; it is a comprehensive learning experience for the family and the puppy. We believe that getting off to a good start with your puppy results in a long, rewarding relationship.

HOW OLD DOES MY PUPPY NEED TO BE?

This class is designed for puppies 6-16 weeks of age and their families. All human family members are encouraged to attend so there is consistency in the puppy’s training.

WHY IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT?

Six to sixteen weeks of age is the primary development phase for puppies when they most easily learn. This is also a critical socialization period for your puppy.

 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

• How to housetrain and deal with common puppy behaviors like chewing, barking, digging, and rough play
• How to perform routine care tasks such as trimming nails, cleaning ears, brushing teeth, and grooming
• Positive reinforcement techniques including clicker training and using Gentle Leader ® head collars
• Benefits associated with spaying, neutering, microchipping, and taking hip x-rays
• First aid information including CPR, seasonal dangers, and how to know when to seek veterinary care
• Also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have on how to raise a healthy, well-behaved puppy

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS MY PUPPY AND I WILL GAIN FROM COMING TO CLASS?

• The class provides an opportunity for your puppy to experience other puppies and new people, places, and things in a safe, controlled environment
• Graduates tend to love coming to the hospital for routine visits and typically don’t display the anxiety other dogs may exhibit when exposed to the sights and sounds of the veterinary hospital
• A well-informed puppy owner is more likely to make the right decisions in emergency situations or when a pet is ill

WHEN IS PUPPY CLASS?

• Classes are offered to clients and their puppies in four week sessions
• Classes are held at Companion Animal Hospital on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 pm
• A new session usually starts on the first Tuesday of every month; however, our instructor will contact you with the exact starting date for your session

HOW MUCH DOES PUPPY CLASS COST?

The charge for our puppy class is comparable to the fee charged at PetSmart and other places that offer puppy classes. You may pay for puppy class at the first class.
