YOUR NEW PUPPY
Your puppy’s first visit to the vet
Soon after you adopt a new puppy, you should schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians. Please bring any records regarding vaccinations or medical treatments your new pet may have already received. We also recommend bringing a fresh stool sample to the appointment so that we can test for common intestinal parasites that puppies can carry. The doctor will perform a complete physical examination to look for any problems your new puppy may have, such as eye discharge, ear infection, or even a heart murmur. You will have a chance to discuss the different types of canine vaccinations with the doctor to determine which ones your puppy will need. Your puppy may receive vaccines at the initial appointment but if the time isn’t right, we will let you know when vaccinations should be scheduled. A deworming medication may be administered or prescribed in order to clear any intestinal parasites your puppy may be infected with. The doctor will also talk about spaying or neutering your puppy and can provide you with information on the health benefits of sterilizing your new pet.
